Wanderers Work Off Thanksgiving Dinner
at the Dirty Bird 15k Trail Race

On Sunday, November 25th 10 Wanderers decided to get off the couch on Thanksgiving weekend & take on the Dirty Bird 15k Trail Race in French Creek Park.  Conditions were dry, sunny & pleasant—an odd phenomenon for a Ron Horn event.

Not only did the trails present their usual challenges, but newly fallen leaves created a disguise for the treacherous rocks below.  Navigating these obstacles proved daunting, but the Wanderers managed to pull through despite several rolled ankles, a nose dive by the graceful Tammy Leigh and Polly being directionally challenged.

Results:

Chris Verry 1:18:25
Doug Dubrosky 1:18:56
Polly Jansen 1:27:44
Wendy Stevens 1:31:47
Susan Hurrey 1:40:15
Matt Mauren 1:41:01
Brian McKenna 1:43:28
Tammy Leigh DeMent 1:59:50
Dennis Crowne 1:59:51
Megan Boyle 2:02:05

All in all it was a great event. Chris turned up the cadence after he realized Doug was breathing down his neck. Wendy made a glorious return after training in the high altitudes of Colorado. Susan turned a few heads after cursing the trail gods for every ankle roll. Matt and Tammy Leigh showed amazing strength and vigor in their French Creek debut having finished the Philly Marathon a week before. Brian, always a glutton for punishment decided he is going to make a habit of these crazy races. Dennis and Tammy Leigh were a support team for each other the whole way and Megan was steady and strong despite feelings of Thanksgiving dinner repeating on her.

Yes, the Wanderers again represented well. Next up—Chilly Cheeks on January 20, 2008!
