Wanderers Travel to Gotham for Snowflake 4-miler

Photos: photos are at the bottom of this page.

Wanderers awoke before dawn and piled into the Technovan on February 25 to travel up Route 95 for the Al Gordon Snowflake 4-miler in Central Park in New York. There, they were joined by veteran out-of-state Wanderers Duncan MacGuigan and Sam Campbell and newcomer Lorre Eng.

The Wanderer assault team, in addition to Mac and Sam, consisted of the following: Werner Krandick, Petra, Carnage, Adam Davey, Scott and Janet Quitel. The team was bolstered by the presence of Janet's father Sid Siegel.

al gordonRunning through blustery and cold conditions, the Wanderers posted some impressive results in the race which is named after Wanderer honorary coach Al Gordon. Adam led the charge with a time of 29:34, followed by Werner in 30:51. Carnage registered a rare respectible time of 32:13 followed by Scott in 34:51, Mac in 39:50 and Sam in 40:16. (Editor's note: This is Sam's first race since competing in the 2004 Cabot Trail Relay.) Sid completed the race in an impressive 38:31.

The men's race was held at 8:30 followed by the women's race at 9:30, and the Wanderer pace did not let up. Janet was timed in 32:15, and Petra finished in 35:55. Lorre was timed in a solid 44:58.

In all 4,730 runners raced in the Al Gordon Snowflake race.

Duncan and Lorre served up a delicious training meal for the visiting Wanderers after the race, and then everyone piled back into the Technovan for the return to Philadelphia.
