Wanderers Excel in Bog Brawl

The course of the Double Trouble 15k Trail Run on June 22 had been turned into a veritable bog by one week of rain. One of the bridges over French Creek had been washed out forcing runners to wade across with water up over their knees. The condition of the trails ranged from wet to muddy to swampy. Portions of the trail had simply been turned into a stream. The weather was both rainy and hot. In short, the field conditions were just about perfect for a group of Wanderer bogtrotters who traveled to French Creek State Park for the race.

Not only did the Wanderers have to overcome the slimy footing, but they also had to navigate through a course strewn with downed runners suffering from a variety of ailments including twisted ankles and bruised ribs. The Wanderers themselves suffered a few scrapes.

But the Wanderer results were as magnificent as the trails were treacherous. Finishing 7th out of 249 runners was Wanderer phenom Scott Levell in a time of 1:13:25. Not far behind was Matt Palombaro in 1:15:31, and Chris Moore ploughed through the muck in an excellent 25th place finish in 1:19:20. Rock Steady chugged home in 137th place in a time of 1:45:38.

Doug Baranek, a frequent competitor in Wanderer events, was crazy enough to run the two-loop 30k course finishing in a time of 3:10:05 to come in 35th out of a field of 82 crazies.

The race was put on by Pretzel City Sports. For full results check their website.
