The
Wissahickon Wanderers running club was formed in the spring
of 2000 and is open to runners of all different levels and
abilities. Although based in the Philadelphia area, the club
has members nationwide including the Midwest and West Coast
of United States.
The club's goal is to encourage
running and fitness, and to make running an enjoyable experience.
We also see running as a great form of exercise for people of all
ages.
Our members participate in road races ranging from
the Philadelphia Distance Run to the Midnight Sun Marathon in Baffin
Island, Canada. We also enter teams in long distance relay races
such as the 187-mile Cabot Trail Relay in Cape Breton, Canada and
the Dances with Dirt 100K trail relay in Michigan. We also participate
in a number of runs including 5k, 10k, and even 100k runs.
Our objective with each race is to enjoy the run
no matter what position we finish in. You will not find any Wissahickon
Wanderer up on the winner's podium (we'll probably still be out
on the course!). However, every Wanderer that participates is considered
a winner.
The Wanderers also promote the sport of running by
sponsoring the Roxborough 5K race in the fall and assisting the
recent renovation of the Roxborough High School Track, among other
projects.
Enjoy running as a great form of outdoor recreation
and exercise, no slackers need apply!
